Ligia Saborio
Ligia Saborio´s boutique and workshop, Creaciones y Diseños is a sanctuary for clients seeking beautiful, special occasion children’s attire.
At the age of 23, Ligia graduated with a degree in Biology and had zero job prospects. However, she possessed two great skills: one, the desire to achieve and, two, a talent for sewing. With these strengths Ligia started her own business sewing children’s clothes.
As she spent years perfecting her stitching, Ligia watched her business grow.
Originally she offered one product, but now the expanded product line includes clothing for boys and girls. During points of high demand, Ligia needs a team of 13 employees to support the booming demand for her clothing.
When asked why her business has succeeded, Ligia responded: ¨Let me show you. It is the quality of my products. Look closely. No one else makes embroidered buttons. This rose-embroidered button design was derived from Parisian wear.¨ All of her pieces are made with a delicate touch and gentle care, making each item extraordinary.
The major struggle that Ligia faces is capitalizing on the niche market she built. At times, the small Nicaraguan market seems constricting, and the cost of Ligia´s creations is a deterrent for many. In order to grow further, Ligia Saborio hopes to appeal to this niche market in other countries.
Consulting Focus
In the past two years, Agora worked with Ligia reviewing her growth plan and business model. Agora also provided assistance in updating the company website. The current goals set for Creaciones y Diseños are to open a new workshop in León, triple monthly production, and further investigate export opportunities.
