Karla Ibarra describes her story as being a simple one. She was born, raised, and educated in Managua. She had always been interested in making candles. After graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Engineering (UNI), she began to set her sights on developing her own, handmade candle business. “Caite, Velas Artesanales” opened its doors in 2001.
Caite is currently the only producer of artisan candles in Nicaragua. In the eight years since its inception her back yard workshop has grown to produce upwards of 100 candles a day. After making appearances at trade shows in Managua, Karla signed on
with several major distributors. Caite candles can now be found on the
shelves of major supermarkets and department stores throughout Nicaragua. Karla also offers made-to-order options for her clients, who can personalize their candles by inscribing custom messages or printing a photo or business logo. Her wax centerpieces are stunning works of art.
Consulting Focus:
Karla began working with Agora Partnerships in 2007. Together, Agora and Caite worked on general administrative practices, drafting a business plan, and marketing strategies. Perhaps most important to Karla have been Agora’s conferences and seminars, from which she has learned many important tips on how to improve the daily administrative and financial organization of Caite.
